Your organisation is invited to consider registering individuals to attend a timely course that aims to deliver support to young people suffering from mental illness.

Rotary Clubs of Central Melbourne and North Brighton are offering complimentary places to the Youth Mental Health First Aid course for interested ADULTS who work with or support young people and would like to better understand the signs and causes of youth mental illnesses and assist young people when in need.

Who Should Attend?

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is an accredited course developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia. It is developed for adults working or living with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, the course can be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older. This course is particularly suitable for teachers, school wellbeing officers, sports coaches, youth workers and support staff.

What The Course Covers:

The course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or are in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about:

• adolescent development,

• the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people,

• where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness,

• what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and

• how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Course Format:

This is a 14-hour course, which will be delivered in a 2-day training package (9.00am – 5.00pm each day) on Monday 28th February and Tuesday 1st March. Course participants receive a copy of the Youth Mental Health First Aid Manual to keep and a Certificate of Completion.

Course Registration:

Course attendance is FREE, however a $50 deposit is required, refundable on completion of the course. Registration can be made directly from the Trybooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/BWHOP

This course provides an invaluable opportunity for adults working with young people to better understand and respond appropriately when a mental illness is developing. We hope that your organisation can participate and benefit from this program and we look forward to welcoming you.

Please note that in line with Victorian Government mandatory regulations, all persons entering the Kathleen Syme Library must show their COVID-19 vaccination certificate. This can be done digitally via the Service Victoria app or a hard copy can be presented in conjunction with photo ID.
