Rotary Central Melbourne promotes friendship, fellowship and particularly mutual assistance in community service, business activities, vocational development, Club activities and personal relationships.

We uphold the Rotary ideal of "Service above Self."

We are all non-paid volunteers involved in a wide range of activities including Rotary sponsored programs, community service needs, youth development programs and international programs.

Rotary membership is open to any business, trade or professional person, male or female, who feels a special need to help other people within their community. For example in our Club there are people from:
  • Professional Services,
  • Individual Consultants,
  • Banking, Law and Accountancy,
  • Hospitality,
  • Medicine and Religion,
  • Retailing, printing, travel and media,
  • Non-Government Agencies,
  • Policing,
  • Engineering,
  • Manufacturing,
  • Not-for-Profit Organisations,
  • And many more.

The following are some of the programs and activities undertaken by the Club:
  • Provide skills for new generation leaders.
  • Provide opportunities for youths to understand parliamentary style international debate.
  • Provide opportunities for selected youths to experience life in another country as an Exchange Student.
  • Provide "in kind" support and funds to community based service providers and charities, both locally and internationally.
We take special interest in the promotion of leadership, ethical standards and vocational excellence in our community and in the Melbourne Central Business District. Some examples are:
  • Awards for good citizenship,
  • Awards for academic leadership,
  • Awards for vocational excellence,
  • Mentoring and leadership programs
  • Special study scholarships.
Rotarians gain experience in project activities using a variety of human resources. The diversity and nature of Rotary projects provides opportunities to acquire international, social, cultural, political and administrative skills. Because Rotary has many highly regarded and experienced members, the tutelage in these skills is second to none.

Responsibility, human relations, public speaking, administration, leadership, meeting skills, management, and much, much more are acquired in a cooperative environment where friendship and understanding is emphasized. No other organisation offers such a wide range of personal development opportunities.
